Al Jawharah al Naqi ala al Sunan al Bayhaqi

Al-Jawharah al-Naqiyyah is a highly regarded work of ḥadīth scholarship, containing profound insights, unique discussions, and valuable critical observations indispensable to those engaged in the study of ilal of ḥadīth.

Authored by the renowned Ḥanafī scholar and Chief Qadhi, Imām ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn Ibn Turkumānī, the work is a detailed critical study of al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Bayhaqī’s monumental al-Sunan al-Kubrā. Much of it comprises scholarly critiques, analyses, and discussions of al-Bayhaqī’s positions, reflecting the author’s remarkable depth in ḥadīth criticism.

The author’s student, ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Qurashī (d. 775 AH), praised the work as “a magnificent and precious book,” remarking that had the earlier masters of ḥadīth seen it, “they would have asked to kiss the tongue that uttered such words.”

Its significance is further enhanced by its engagement with al-Sunan al-Kubrā, one of the most comprehensive compilations of the Prophetic Sunnah and a major source for aḥādīth relating to Islamic law. Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ stated, “We know of no work comparable to it in its field,” while al-Dhahabī wrote, “No one possesses its like.”

Al-Jawharah al-Naqiyyah thus represents a remarkable contribution to the critical study of ḥadīth and to the scholarly engagement with one of the great encyclopaedic works of the Sunnah.
