This book is the English translation of as-Sirat an-Nabawiyyah, a scholarly and thoroughly researched Arabic work by Shaykh Abul-Hasan Ali Nadwi. The title has been adopted from the Urdu translation of the same work. In this book, the author pays careful attention to the mindset, tastes, understanding, and sensibilities of the current generation. He also considers modern methods of research and discourse, ensuring that the content, evidence, and style are both accessible and impactful.

In preparing this work, Shaykh Nadwi consulted a wide range of literature-both classical and contemporary, in Arabic and other languages-so that the book is not only comprehensive but also able to clarify misconceptions prevalent in modern thought. As a result, the work has received widespread acclaim and, within a short period, has been included in university syllabi. Now, the English version allows readers who are not proficient in Arabic or Urdu to benefit from this invaluable scholarship.

About the Author

Shaykh Abul-Hasan Ali Nadwi hailed from the Indian Hasani descendants of the Prophet ﷺ and belonged to a renowned scholarly family. Although originally from Rai Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, he spent most of his life in Lucknow. He served as the Nazim (principal) and chair of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board.

A distinguished Islamic thinker, preacher, and guide, Shaykh Nadwi was also a prolific author with mastery of both oral and written Arabic and Urdu. Among his notable works is What Has the World Lost Because of the Downfall of the Muslims? His writings and speeches reflect deep empathy for humanity and present authentic Islamic thought and methodology.

In addition to leading Nadwa and the Personal Law Board, he supported and guided numerous religious and social organizations. His religious and social activism spanned more than half a century, leaving a lasting impact on Islamic scholarship and public life.
