About this edition
This high-quality translation of Ibn Hishām’s Qaṭr al-Nadā is a milestone in the study of Arabic grammar in English. This concise, didactic work is not merely a grammar primer by one of the foremost authorities of the later Arabic grammatical tradition; it also offers valuable insight into the way a grammarian thinks and analyses the Arabic language.
The title literally means Drops of Dew and Wetting a Parched Throat. Although originally intended as an introductory text, modern students of Arabic will find its content to be at least intermediate in level. This excellent edition is further enhanced by the inclusion of the complete Arabic matn of the primer at the back of the book, allowing students to study the original text alongside its English translation.
